St Brigid’s Cross in stained glass. St Brigid is the only female patron saint of Ireland and her cross would have traditionally been made from straw. Hanging a cross from the rafters of a home is meant to bring the blessing and protection of the saint for the rest of the year. This stained glass version features the straw cross which has been painted onto the glass using black paint. Fire is also associated with the saint and has been painted onto the glass using coloured enamels. The surrounding edge glass is an emerald green which has also been painted. The circular panel is 20cms diameter. The painted sections have been fired several times in a kiln to ensure the paint is permanent, then lead is used to bring the pieces together. Finally hooks have been soldered onto the panel so that it can be hung. Includes UK postage.
